Judge seals records in case involving Frontenac shooting, crash
(KMOV) -- Family, friends and an attorney are in court, fighting to protect three children left orphaned after a double murder in Frontenac.
At the same time, funeral arrangements are being made for Kelli Alexander and her friend April Wheeler. Kelli’s husband shot the pair to death on Friday.
Kelli Alexander's attorney is still stunned about what happened here on Bopp Road involving her client. The mother of three young children sought help in early January, fed up after more than a decade of abuse at the hands of husband John Alexander.
Today lawyer Jody Wolff requested a judge seal all court records involving John and Kelli Alexander to protect their children. The children learned yesterday about the murders, and subsequent crash that killed their father.
Alexander had been staying at the home of friend April Wheeler. News 4 has learned that Wheeler was supposed to supervise a visit between John Alexander and his children at a fish fry on Bopp Road Friday night.
Kelli Alexander was on her way to watch Wheeler’s children, ages 5 and 1, when alexander ambushed them.
George Wheeler, April’s father in law, feels strongly the legal system failed Kelli Alexander. He says April Wheeler worked full time, and had two boys.
While Kelli Alexander feared her husband, George Wheeler describes April as strong, and courageous, willing do anything for a friend.
In the city of Frontenac, back in 2001, John Alexander was liked well enough, at least temporarily, that the Board of Aldermen gave him a position on the city's police and fire commission shortly after Mayor Sandy Sobelman was elected.
The mayor says within weeks, Alexander was suspended and then removed from the police and fire board because of his behavior and an incident with Ballwin police near one of his homes.
But Sobelman says Alexander's attack in Town & Country was a total shock and she is concerned about the children who witnessed it. Frontenac's police and fire commission post is an unpaid job. The commissioners serve as advisers to the Board of Aldermen.
